Action Alert - DEFEND DACA - 8/30/17
CALL REP. KING – Tell him to co-sponsor Rep. Gutierrez’s American Hope Act (H.R. 3591) to give those with DACA and others who arrived in the US as children a path to permanent legal status and eventual citizenship.
Tell him that you read his March op-ed in the New York Daily News, and that it is not enough that he “hopes” DREAMers (children and young adults who are undocumented and were brought here as minors by their families) get a path to citizenship.
1. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) have introduced bipartisan legislation to the Senate to protect DREAMers. Since Rep. King represents the largest Hispanic population of any of the four districts on LI, and has the greatest number of eligible Latino voters why has he not worked to introduce similar legislation in the House?
2. Will he now commit to cosponsoring Rep. Guiterrez’s American Hope Act?
3. Does it concern Rep. King that children and young adults in his district live in fear of deportation despite the fact that the U.S. is the only country they have ever known?

> Despite Rep. King’s attempts to normalize raids, these raids are terrorizing our communities. Families in his district have been clamoring for immigration reform.
> Rep. King has played a role in creating a second class of community members who have family ties in the U.S. and LI and no way to legalize their status to be with their families.
> Many consider deportation to be a death sentence.
> 6% of DACA recipients have launched businesses that employ native-born American citizens.
> Almost 55% of DACA recipients have purchased a vehicle, and more than one in ten — or 12% — have purchased their first home.
> DACA-recipients are proof that when undocumented immigrants are brought out of the shadows and legally enter the workforce, they contribute even more to our nation by paying taxes, purchasing homes and strengthening public safety and national security.
