  • TPS or Temporary Protected Status grants legal permission to live and work in the United States to people from designated countries, due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent those people from returning safely.

  • Decisions to designate a country for TPS are discretionary. Designation can last 6, 12, or 18 months only.

  • There are approximately 300,000 Haitian, Salvadoran, and Honduran TPS holders in the U.S.

  • The layoff of the employed TPS population from these three countries would result in $967 million in turnover costs for employers forced to replace these employees.

  • From these three countries, there are an estimated 26,000 people living and working legally in New York State and an estimated 14,000 in Long Island.

  • Deporting the 300,000 TPS holders from these three countries would cost taxpayers $3.1 billion dollars.

  • Ending TPS for these three countries
would reduce Social Security and Medicare contributions by $6.9 billion dollars over ten years.

  • Ending TPS for these three countries would reduce GDP by $45.2 billion over ten years.

  • NY02 is home to an estimated 7,100 Central American TPS holders, one of the largest concentrations of TPS recipients per congressional district in the country.

  • TPS holders are our neighbors, our coworkers, local small business owners, and fellow parishioners.  TPS recipients work hard, own homes, and are long-time residents of this country with citizen spouses and children.

  • We call on Rep. Pete King to urge the Administration to extend TPS for all who currently have status.

DACA & TPS are not only morally sound,
they are fiscally responsible.
